2022 BMW X2. Following the last introduction, we are certain that the 2022 BMW X2 will not have any substantial modifications. As you are surely aware, the new crossover was just announced as a 2023 release. The popular Bavarian automaker’s range is expanding. This time, we’ve discovered a coupe-like variant of the company’s well-known X1 crossover.
The new version has exactly the same relationship as all of the sub-crossovers, using the X4 X3, and the X6 with the X5. The two copies are the same in some aspects and the larger gap lies in the shape of the body. Other design features, such as the powertrain, interior layout, and many others, are almost the same. A new version is coming, so there is absolutely no need to make some additional changes now. The 2022 X2 won’t include more significant changes, but some equipment changes have potential. Expect to arrive at the end of the year.
2022 BMW X2 Powertrain Options
When it comes to the powertrain, the North American version will only include one replacement engine. This is the familiar 2.0-liter gas engine, which delivers about 225 horsepower and includes a pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Outside of North America, you’ll find three different types of engines for the bargain. There is a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, which produces 189 horsepower for this event. It includes a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The same transmission is used for the 2.0-liter gasoline engine, which is capable of producing about 187 horsepower. On the other hand, there is a more efficient version of the engine accompanied by an 8-speed automatic. This unit delivers 227 horsepower. Interestingly, there is absolutely no manual transmission in the deal.
2022 BMW X2 Concept
Although this crossover is quite new, it has a somewhat familiar design doctrine. This is the third-digit derivative of this famous new odd cross. This time, it’s a coupe version of the X1 sub-model. Compared to its version, the new one is slightly smaller, due to the sloping roofline. The 2022 BMW X2 will stick with modifications in this aspect because it is very new. Its coupe lineup has become the most easily recognizable detail, however, there are some additional novelties as well. The work made some nice changes to the grille and headlights. This is really something we will likely find in another new release coming.
Inside, the 2022 BMW X2 will continue without modification. The interior is very similar to the X1, although there isn’t much new to note.
2022 BMW X2 Inside Design
Despite its small size, the 2022 BMW X2 will make a comeback. Despite its size, it is still a superior crossover. Therefore, a long list of standard features is to be expected. When compared to this year’s 2023 version, we can notice the addition of some standard features, but the central part will definitely remain the same. So, standard features are things like 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, keyless ignition, automatic wipers and power tailgate, power-adjustable front seats, driver seat memory configuration, and a seven-speaker audio system. Apart from that, there are several optional packages in the deal. For example, the feature package includes features like a panoramic sunroof, ambient interior lighting, auto-dimming mirrors, keyless entry, satellite radio, and lumbar support for the front-flexible seat.
BMW X2 2022 Side View
On the flip side, the premium package includes elements such as LED headlights, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a head-up display and a navigation system. Obviously, there are also a handful of independent alternatives.
2022 BMW X2 Release Date And Cost
The 2022 BMW X2 was coming along somewhere late last year. Compared to the X1, this version costs several tens of thousands more. Therefore, the basic version is offered at $38,000, approximately. The competition is really tough. There is a small selection of luxury crossovers available in the market.
A number of the main players are versions such as the Audi Q3, Lexus NX and Mercedes-Benz GLA. There are also versions such as the Infiniti QX30, Range Rover Evoque, Volvo XC40 and many others.

2022 BMW X2 News
Sharing its foundations with the quieter X1 SUV, the 2022 BMW X2 distinguishes itself with its curved curved roof and truly rabid hot-rail variants. With nimble handling, the X2 is easy to drive fast on winding roads—some would argue that it’s more of a hot hatch than an SUV. The base model comes with the same 228-hp four-cylinder engine found under the X1’s hood, but we prefer the more powerful 302-hp M35i. The sloping roofline cuts through passenger and cargo spaces, but we weren’t alarmed. Given its driving stance, the X2 still ranks among our favorite small SUVs for sale today.
BMW made some changes to the pint-sized X2 this year. Buyers can now order the black side mirror caps as a standalone option, and the Extended Shadowline package will replace the gloss black exterior chrome trim.
If you’re looking to buy a sDrive28i front-wheel drive or xDrive28i all-wheel drive, we’d like to point out that the Boxier X1 is cheaper, more practical and as fun to drive as the X2. It is the X2 M35i that deserves your attention. A 302-horsepower four-cylinder engine turns this crossover into a more focused performance engine. This is the setting we recommend.
Engine, Transmission And Performance
The X2 shares its standard powertrain with the X1. It consists of a 228-horsepower, eight-speed, four-cylinder automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. BMW calls this model the sDrive28i. If you want all-wheel drive, you’ll have to pay an extra $2,000 for the xDrive28i. The base drive is lovable: eager to spin, silky smooth and incredibly bold. On our test track, the X2 xDrive28i delivered speeds from 6.4 seconds to 60 mph — 0.1 seconds slower than the X1 xDrive28i and Volvo XC40 T5. The Mercedes-Benz GLA250 was the fastest, hitting the target in 5.8 seconds. If that’s still too slow for you, the M35i is probably the ticket. BMW tuned the high-performance X2 engine to pump out 302 horsepower. That’s great for a dash from 4.6 seconds to 60. The X2 has a tough ride, especially with the sport suspension. When passing through bumpy roads, passengers will feel every imperfection in their seats. The trade-off is a high level of agility. The X2 is great fun for fast cornering and rewards the driver with its predictability.
Real-World Fuel Economy And MPG
The X2 doesn’t boast the highest fuel economy rating in its class, but it’s still very efficient. The front-wheel drive model should see up to 32 mpg on the highway, and the X2 all-wheel drive model, up to 31 mpg. However, in our tests, the X2 outperformed itself, with results of 36 mpg on our 200-mile fuel-efficient route. We were only able to manage 29 mpg on the X1 and XC40 T5 all-wheel drive systems. For more information on the X2’s fuel economy, visit the EPA website.
Interior, Comfort And Shipping
While the X2’s interior isn’t as expressive as its exterior, the cabin is well-appointed and well-built. The driving position is excellent, and all the controls of the X2 are within reach of the driver. Headroom in the back seat is tight, but passenger space should be acceptable for most people. BMW offers synthetic leather and genuine leather in several colours. With its more shaped rear end, the X2 isn’t nearly as functional as the X1, but it’s on par with its rooftop competition. We loaded five handbags behind the back seat and 15 bags with folded seats; The X1 runs seven and 19, respectively.
Information, Entertainment And Communication
An 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation is standard and works on BMW’s intuitive iDrive software. BMW also offers a control knob in the center console, if you don’t like the touch screen. The Premium plan adds an alert display. Apple CarPlay capability is standard, but Android Auto isn’t available. The inline seven-speaker audio system will be good enough for casual listeners, but audiophiles can opt for the premium Harman/Kardon audio system for more coins.
Safety And Driver Assistance Features
A suite of basic driver assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, are standard, and BMW offers additional technology for a price. For more information about X2 crash test results, visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Key security features include:
Warranty And Maintenance Coverage
In terms of warranty coverage, the X2 policy is average. BMW offers three years of scheduled maintenance included – a nice feature that Mercedes doesn’t offer. If you plan on piling on the distance, you’d better get a Lexus NX, Lincoln MKC, or Cadillac XT4, all of which offer powertrain protection for two years longer than the X2.

2022 BMW X2 Update
BMW’s compact crossover X2 is a great alternative to luxury hatchbacks sold abroad, due to its compact size combined with its high seating position and high ground clearance. It’s a new addition to the 2018 lineup and soon an updated version will arrive, which means the X2 will be even more interesting.
The updated X2 prototype has already been spotted and hints at some of the visual tweaks we can expect. The hood will be removed sometime in 2021, which means we’ll likely see the car arrive as a 2022 model. A redesigned version of the linked X1 will be released in 2022.
X2 sports typical headlights with revised interior. The grille is also very closed, indicating a new design, and the new front end does not have the current model’s fog lights (a sticker was used on the prototype to deceive the public). The more advanced prototype is likely to feature additional modifications such as a revised rear fascia and possibly new interior parts for the taillights.
We are also likely to see some changes in the cabin. A more sophisticated dashboard design appears in the latest 1 Series hatchbacks, and the new Gran Coupe 2-Series is possible. It features a digital instrument cluster that integrates with the large infotainment screen at the top of the center console.
The X2 is currently available in the US in the X2 xDrive28i and X2 M35i trims, which are equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 228 and 302 horsepower, respectively. We don’t expect this to change on the updated model, although there is still the possibility to add a new entry-level model with front-wheel drive. This could bring the price down below the X2’s current starting price of $39,395.
The X2 xDrive25e plug-in hybrid option was added to the lineup in May, although as with the X1 we didn’t expect to see this offered on the X2 sold in the US.
There were also rumors of an X2 convertible, but it seems that this style of body is no longer in development, at least with this generation of BMW’s compact crossover.
The popularity of the X2 convinced BMW to adopt the same elegant design as the planned X8. A new flagship SUV is currently being developed with the same tilted roof design as the X2, rather than the coupe-like roof of the X4 and X6. The X8 is expected to debut in 2022.
