The 2022 Camaro LT1 V8 will go on sale in US showrooms for less than $35,000 (including destination fee), which is $3,000 less than the current price of the Camaro 1SS.

Drag racers know all about COPO, but for the rest, here’s the rundown. In 1969, many Chevy dealers used the automaker’s Central Office Production Order (COPO) system to order Camaros with options and engines you wouldn’t normally get. 69 cars were built that year (and only), but Chevy is reviving the 2012 COPO Camaro as a dedicated traction-ready racer that certainly isn’t street legal.
For 2022, engine options now include Chevrolet’s massive 572 cubic inch (9.4 liter) V8. This is the first time this massive block has overseen a modern COPO Camaro, and while we wanted to tell you how much power it produces, Chevy lets us know the exact numbers that haven’t been certified by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). not yet. However, by researching available GM box engines, the 572 is offered in variants ranging from 621 to nearly 700 hp (463 – 522 kW) so it will likely fall somewhere in that range.
If those stats pass to COPO, the big block of the Camaro will be placed above the 580 hp (433 kW) supercharged V8 that is also on offer. Also available is a 7.0-liter V8 with a capacity of 470 hp (350 kW).
In honor of the original 1969 Camaro COPO, Chevy makes only 69 units annually but not for 2022. Now, the automaker will make as many COPOs as required, with no limit. Fewer than 700 cars have been built since the modern program was launched in 2012, but with production now opening up to large scale, the cars will be assembled on a first-come, first-served basis until buyers stop coming. This is just speculation on our part, but if we want to send the Camaro out loud, this isn’t a bad way to go. Back it up with a Final Edition model in the spring of 2022, and prepare the crowd for a potential Camaro EV sedan before the end of the decade.

It’s been an exciting week for Chevrolet Camaro fans. On the one hand, we have rumors of the imminent demise of the Camaro as we’ve always known: a gas-powered horse car. On the other hand, we have another version of the legendary COPO Camaro, which was upgraded for 2022 with a 572 cubic inch V8 monster. For those accustomed to thinking in terms of the metric volume is 9.4 liters. Nine point four.
The next number you might want to know is how much power the 572 makes, but unfortunately Chevy and the NHRA are still working on that number, which is expected soon. There are other options for COPO Camaro engines from the LSX family: a 5.7 engine with 580 hp, and a 7.0-liter naturally aspirated 470 hp. Whichever machine you choose, it will be paired with an ATI TH400 three-speed automatic transmission.
COPO is only designed for drag racing in the NHRA Stock and Super Stock classes, so it’s not legal at all. While there’s a long list of options, like a canopy and a luggage-mounted weight box, a carbon-fiber bonnet and COPO wheel spokes are standard.
However, there’s better news for anyone frustrated with the Camaro’s previous COPO production drop. Overall, it was capped at 69 units per year, a reference to the original COPO Camaro model. For 2022, the order book is wide open. How much space is available in your garage? Order a dozen, if you want. But if you want it fast, order it fast, because COPO will be built on a first come first serve basis.
