2022 Ford Expedition Preview Update News Specs
2022 Ford Expedition. The all-new 2022 Ford Expedition is expected to hit the market late next year. The Expedition MAX, a bigger form of this fantastic SUV, will also be available. There will be three trim levels available, as well as the option of a 7- or 8-seater cabin. The 2022 Expedition will be available with both petrol and diesel engines under the hood. A hybrid version will most likely be available starting next year.
2022 Ford Expedition Inside Design
Ford will focus more on the interior this time around. The new 2022 Ford Expedition will look more modern and provide greater safety. The standard shape of this SUV offers space for seven passengers. Interior space is generous and the list of standard features is more than satisfactory.
The Expedition comes with a rearview camera, three-zone climate control, and keyless entry. Besides, the nine-speaker audio system, Bluetooth and USB ports are also available. You can upgrade the interior with higher trim levels or optional cargo features.
2022 Ford Expedition Concept
The 2022 Ford Expedition is 210 inches long, a full-size SUV. Expedition Max is 12 inches longer than the regular version. The wheelbase is rated at 122.5 inches and the MAX provides an additional 9 inches. The regular version is 76.5 inches long, while the maximum height is 4 inches.
Essentially, Expedition Max offers more interior space and better cargo capacity. Let’s say you choose the Platinum level, which offers space for seven people. Expedition Max offers an additional 16 cubic feet over 64 or 105 cubic feet to the base.
2022 Ford Expedition Powertrain Options
The upcoming SUV comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine as standard. This gasoline unit produces up to 380 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. The new 2022 Ford Expedition can tow up to 9,350 pounds and offers a 10-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, full-size SUVs use rear-wheel drive as standard. Auto start/stop is offered as standard, which slightly increases fuel efficiency. In addition to the gasoline variant, the Expedition has a lot to offer.
Without a doubt, the biggest addition in 2022 will be a hybrid drive. This turbo provides significantly better fuel economy numbers. Furthermore, there is a hybrid variant in the pipeline. The Expedition uses the same platform that powers the Ford F-150 pickup truck. Knowing that a full-size SUV can easily borrow a hybrid powertrain. Official details are not available as we are still waiting for confirmation from Blue Oval.
2022 Ford Expedition Release Date And Cost
The 2022 Ford Expedition will have a slight price jump. The base XLT starts at $55,000 and the Limited models start at $63,000. Expedition Max is available for an additional $3000 and the hybrid version is around $6000. Speculation predicts the return of the famous King Ranch trim level. The full-size SUV will go on sale in November.
2022 Ford Expedition News
The Expedition is the master of all Ford SUVs, a full-size three-row trunk aimed at the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban. Ford introduced an all-new and redesigned 2019 Expedition with independent rear suspension and a turbocharged V-6 engine. For Expedition 2022, we’re expecting a revamped model with a slightly updated look, new colors, and some changed features.
The Expedition’s driving is better than any vehicle we’d expect in this segment. Its stunning refinement on the road helped the mighty Ford take a victory in our full-size SUV in 2018. However, the recently redesigned Chevrolet Tahoe took the dub into a more modern take with its extra dose of ostentation.
Expedition’s refinement is thanks to its smooth, quiet ride and confidence-inspiring steering. A V-8 isn’t available, unlike most Expedition competitors, but we appreciate the sharp response and impressive towing capability of Ford’s twin-turbo V6. However, sometimes a ten-speed automatic transmission can provide some heavy shifting. We hope to test the 2022 Expedition to see if Ford addresses this minor issue.
At least for the pre-2022 models, the interior feels like something out of the F-250, but we appreciate the spacious, comfortable cabin. Even third-row passengers will not feel cramped, and access to the third row is easy. There are also cup holders, USB ports, and air vents in all three seat rows. The infotainment system is relatively intuitive and works well, although the 8.0-inch screen on the pre-2022 models feels smaller, especially tucked away in that huge dash. Could Expedition 2022 offer a bigger screen? We’ll find out soon.
There is only one powertrain option for the Expedition, and it’s a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The V-6 biturbo engine develops 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, powered by standard rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. When we tested a standard wheelbase navigator with all-wheel drive, it hit 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. The fuel economy figures for 2022 refer to 16-17/21-23 mpg city/highway.
Safety Features And Ratings
In NHTSA crash tests, the Expedition received a five-star overall safety rating, consisting of a five-star frontal and side impact rating and a four-star rollover rating. Ford also includes a number of driver assistance features, including automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking, and rear parking sensors. Also available are Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Assist.
Cargo Space And Interior Space
The Expedition provides valuable interior space for a small movie theatre, although cargo size and legroom lag slightly behind the figures published by the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban.
Regardless of the equipment, the Expedition is powered by an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities are all standard. If you want an integrated navigation system, it’s optional on the base XLT or standard on Limited and higher. The standard audio system is a basic six-speaker setup, but a Bang & Olufsen premium 12-speaker system is available. The optional rear-seat entertainment setup will keep second-row passengers occupied with video screens mounted on the backs of the first-row seats.
Ford’s largest SUV
The Expedition is the top dog among Ford SUVs, ranking above the Explorer, Mustang Mach E, Bronco, Edge, Bronco Sport, Escape, and EcoSport. Although both the Explorer and Expedition have three rows of seats, the Expedition is a much larger vehicle. Compared to the Explorer, the Expedition is 11 inches longer, 1 inch wider, and 6 inches longer. It also weighs about 1000 lbs.
2022 Ford Expedition Update
Here is the latest photo of several of the 2022 Ford Expedition and 2022 Lincoln Navigator models. Ford’s larger SUVs are undergoing a refresh inside and out. What do we expect? It’s all about updated design on the outside, new technology on the inside, a special new Expedition off-road model and possible hybrid powertrains. This information is not official yet, but all indications are that this SUV is powered by PowerBoost hybrid power plants.
The 2022 Ford Expedition is rumored to use the new 3.5-liter petrol-electric twin-turbo engine from the 2022 Ford F-150. The combined power of the F-150 is 430 horsepower and 570 torsion lbs. This would give the Expedition more power than ever before, as well as better fuel efficiency. The Canadian agency rates the new 2022 F-150 Hybrid at 24 mpg city/24 mpg city/24 mpg combined. If that translates directly to the US Environmental Protection Agency’s rating system, that’s a huge improvement over the current 19 mpg combined for the Expedition.
2022 Ford Expedition Timberline Lincoln Navigator Hybrid
The white Expedition prototype you see here also shows off some aggressive Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT tires. Unofficial reports indicate that this is the new Timberline trim level. This is rumored to be the most worthy off-road Expedition package that exists over current FX4 models. We have tested the current Expedition FX4 several times. It’s a capable package, but having more aggressive off-road tires will increase it by a few notches.
The prototype also shows a camouflaged interior with what appears to be a very large central infotainment screen. When Ford announced its latest SYNC4 user interface system, they said the system could support screens up to 15.5 inches. Do we see this big screen in this test vehicle? hard to say. We will have to wait for more official details.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Hybrid Model
There are also images of at least two of two different updated Navigator prototypes. Again, the exterior is wearing some camouflage. Will the new luxury SUV be powered by the same F-150 Hybrid? No, you are more likely to use H.O. A version of the new PowerBoost Hybrid that is also rumored for the upcoming 2022 Ford Raptor. The current Navigator is powered by a Raptor engine that generates 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. The standard 3.5L V6 Hybrid engine from the F-150 may not be enough.
I estimate that the upcoming 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be powered by a 5.7-liter V8 electric/gas plant with 450-500 horsepower. Once again – this is unofficial. The new Navigator drivetrain needs to produce up to 500 horsepower to remain competitive.
