2022 Ford Ranger News
Ford is reinvigorating its pickup lineup, including the new 2021 Ford F-150 (and its upcoming high-performance Raptor and electric variants) and a new mini pickup called the Maverick. The mid-size Ranger pickup will also get a new look, and if it’s anything like what we see in these leaked photos and spy shots, it will be a more attractive option in a segment that includes popular options like the Jeep Gladiator. and Toyota Tacoma. We were finally able to get our hands on the Ranger Raptor in the States, too.
The more square front end is the focal point of the more eye-catching look, and the new Ranger will have C-shaped headlights like those on the redesigned F-150. They are likely bound by two large rods on the grille, although camouflaging in this spy photo Ford does a good job of covering up the new Ranger’s face. The overall size looks similar to the current truck, it rides on a set of black wheels, and the taillights will likely be thinner and less bulky as the current generation.
The new Ranger is expected to retain a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Currently rated to withdraw 7500 pounds with the optional towing package. Ranger currently offers high-performance Raptor models in other global markets, but in the US we currently have to settle for a variety of off-road packages including the Tremor. The good news is that a variant of the new Raptor is finally making its way to the United States. The 310-hp 2.7-liter V-6 is rumored to be featured in the 2021 Bronco’s off-road SUV.
The interior should also be improved, including a larger touch screen with Ford’s new Sync 4 infotainment system. The current model offers an 8.0-inch touchscreen as an option, while the F-150 can be had with a large 12.0-inch unit.
We expect the updated Ranger to launch in late 2021 or early 2022, and it will go on sale in the US as a 2022 model with prices starting at $30,000.

2022 Ford Ranger Update
Ranger is one of Ford’s global players – sold in North America, Europe, Australia and other regions of the world. Depending on the market, it has different powertrain and specs but in the end they are all the same truck. For this reason, the new comprehensive report on the next generation of Ranger, coming from the mainland Down Under, can be considered valid for the United States and Europe as well.
Resource has received initial details about the 2022 Ranger and 2022 Everest with the latter being the SUV version of the truck available in Australia. According to the publication, the pickup truck will get a new hybrid engine that hasn’t been installed in any Ford product yet.
It will use a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and powered by an electric motor to produce a total of 362 hp (270 kW) and 502 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque. The powertrain will differ from Ford’s 3.0- and 2.5-liter PHEV systems found in the new Explorer and Escape.
In addition to the electrified engine, it is also rumored that the new Ranger will have two diesel options, which will likely be offered in Australia and Europe but not in the US. These include a base 2.0-liter twin-turbo engine with 210 hp (157 kW) and a 3.0-liter twin-turbo diesel V6 with 250 hp (186 kW) and 443 pound-feet (600 Nm) of torque. The current 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel engine will be discontinued.
And as far as the performance-oriented Ranger Raptor, at least for Australia, it’s expected to get a 3.0-liter engine, which will replace the current four-cylinder twin-turbo unit. Resource also believes the off-road truck could get the latest generation of Fox Racing shock absorbers, similar to the setup seen on the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor.
On the technology front, the new Ranger is expected to get Ford’s SYNC4 infotainment system with a 12.8-inch vertical screen on the center console, Android Auto connectivity and wireless Apple CarPlay. This will be joined by another 10.25-inch screen, which will be positioned in front of the driver’s view – a design very similar to the cabin of the Mustang Mach-E.
