2022 Jeep Wrangler Update
With the new Ford Bronco finally delivered and rumors of the Bronco Raptor making the rounds, Jeep is poised for a proactive edge by launching the 2022 Wrangler with a new Xtreme Recon package and a 4.88:1 axle option. Unlimited will officially appear at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show.
Basically, this is the factory that offers a lot of the things that extreme SUVs have been pushing so far in the aftermarket. Operating from scratch, there’s a set of 35-inch BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain LT315/70R17C tires mounted on 8.0×17-inch beadlock wheels (Rubicon entry-level models use LT285/70R17 tires). Next, there’s a 1.5-inch factory suspension jack paired with custom-tuned shocks.
On top of that is a pair of pivots with a shorter ratio of 4.56:1. The 4.88:1 setup is a separate option on its own.
Between the extra-diameter 1.7-inch tires and the lift kit, the Wrangler’s main off-road dimensions are improved with the Xtreme Recon kit. We’re told that the Jeep Wrangler Xtreme Recon measures best in class across the board (note the Unlimited Rubicon/Rubicon 392 numbers for comparison):
The new 4.56:1 axle ratio that comes with the Jeep Wrangler Xtreme Recon package applies to both the Wrangler Rubicon (up from 4.10:1) and the Rubicon 392 (which typically comes with a 3.73:1 gearbox). Combine that ratio with a low range of 4.00:1 on a Wrangler Rubicon or 2.72:1 on a Rubicon 392, and you get impressive gear creep ratios of 86:1 with the automatic transmission and 94:1 with the transmission. Six-speed automatic. Manual Rubicon speed or 58:1 on automatic Rubicon 392 only. The automatic and manual traction ratios corresponding to the 4.10:1 axle for the standard Wrangler Rubicon axle are 77:1 and 84:1, and 48:1 for the Rubicon 392 axle.
Not creepy enough for you? Then consider an additional option, which will also launch in Chicago: an axle ratio of 4.88:1. A shorter (numerically longer) axle option is available with or without the Xtreme Recon package and with the 392. When combined with a six-speed manual transmission, this option achieves The highest intake ratio available from the factory, is 100:1 (92:1 with the automatic transmission, or 63:1 on the Rubicon 392 with a less extreme low range of 2.72:1).
Be prepared to spin a few laps higher than normal on the road with this 4.88 setup: 60 mph will require roughly 2100 rpm with the automatic, and 2250 rpm with the manual (these numbers drop to 2000 and 2150 with Xtreme Recon package frameworks.) . For the record, the 4.56:1 ratio that comes with the Xtreme Recon package makes up for quite a bit on its 35-inch tires, so the revs are actually up about 100 rpm at 60 mph relative to the Wrangler Rubicon. The standard is in the 285/70R17. Tires.
How Much And When?
Jeep is keeping quiet about pricing until this set officially debuts in July. However, you can order the Jeep Wrangler Xtreme Recon now, with production of the equipped models beginning in August at the Toledo Assembly Plant.
