2022 Mercedes EQC News

The Mercedes-Benz EQC is the first all-electric vehicle in the brand’s impending battery-powered flash drive. At least for other global markets. Unfortunately, Mercedes has postponed the EQC indefinitely in order to launch it in the US.

In other markets, Mercedes’ new electric EQ sub-brand (or “electrical intelligence”, because you can’t spell “intelligence” without “Q”) is being launched. A compact SUV the same size as the current GLC, the EQC delivers 402 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels. Mercedes claims the EQC will have a range of 279 miles based on the European test cycle.

The EQC shares the same wheelbase as the GLC, which is promising news for commuters because the GLC has plenty of room inside. But for better or worse, Mercedes-Benz has chosen to go in a new design direction with the EQC, rounding off all the edges and removing some “Mercedes-Nice” in the process. If you take the badge off and tell us this is a study of Saab design from nearly the end of the company’s life, we’d probably believe you.

However, the EQC interior seems to be the best in the game. The design manages to be clean while offering plenty of visual appeal, from the cooling fin-inspired door trim to the rose gold accents on the air vents. The gauge and infotainment system are both handled by a floating widescreen console consisting of two 10.25-inch screens. Mercedes also promises a very quiet interior, taking the extra step of isolating the cabin. The M-B’s interior is already one of the best in the game, and EQC has to keep the good times going.

Of course, Tesla has raised the bar for electric performance, so expectations for any type of luxury electric vehicle are high. Although EQC won’t win a drag race against the Model X, it is said that there is no slouch. The EQC uses two electric motors to drive the axles separately via electrons from an 80 kWh battery pack. Total system power is rated at 402 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque, with an estimated 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds.

So far, so good – but the question now is, how far does the EQC go? Mercedes says the EQC will be good at up to 279 miles per charge, putting it ahead of the Jaguar I-Pace and Audi e-tron and slightly behind the Tesla Model X in the top-spec 100D. However, this number comes from the European test cycle, and we know from previous examples that things often get lost in translation. Some buyers may be late if the EQC range is reduced as it will make the vehicle more difficult to use on long trips. Of course, most drivers don’t go more than 200 miles a day, but bragging rights still matter when it comes to range.

After all, an EQC can help you get the most mileage out of every bill. Mercedes has taken steps to improve efficiency not only in the drivetrain but also in the driver. Toggle the EQC to eco mode and the throttle will provide haptic feedback to encourage lift for maximum efficiency in certain situations, such as when you are approaching a minimum speed limit. The car can also adjust the level of regenerative braking automatically if traffic is uphill or slow ahead, although it can be controlled by the driver via the steering wheel pedals.

2022 Mercedes EQC Update

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQC electric car was originally scheduled to land in US showrooms in early 2022. The German automaker then delayed delivery of the vehicle to the US market by a year, with an updated launch expected in early 2021. Now, according to For a report by Autoblog, Mercedes has decided that the EQC “will not be offered in the US at this time” due to “market developments”.

The mid-size Mercedes-Benz EQC400 4Matic electric car is supposed to compete with the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace and Tesla Model X. Early in 2019, it delivers the luxury experience buyers expect from the brand in an EV package.

Due to the initial delay of the 2021 EQC, the upcoming EQS 2022 electric sedan becomes the first electric Mercedes car set to hit the US market. It will be launched this spring and will reach US merchants this fall.

As for the future of the EQC, the “for now” part of Mercedes’ statement leaves no wiggle room for the automaker to finally bring it here. Cars and drivers have reached out to the automaker for comment.
