It was almost a given that when Alex Marquez made his MotoGP debut he would have to learn to share the bike with his brother, Hector. Hector has been a good friend of Alex for a very long time, and when Alex made his debut the two soon became close friends. When Alex went on to win the championship, he shared his victory with his brother.
“It's just like brothers”, Alex told reporters. “This is actually a totally unique situation, but it's also obvious that if Alex hadn't won the title we wouldn't have got to share this great feeling together. I'd like to think that if I hadn't won the championship I probably wouldn't be here, because I'm sure Hector is doing a lot better than me.”
The bond between Alex and Hector was very strong and was evident when they were introduced to each other at the press conference announcing Alex's Moto2 title. In their introduction, both brothers were able to look out for each other, and there was an instant connection. Alex and Hector were immediately drawn to one another, and it was a joy to watch them enjoy each other's company. It was quite remarkable to watch the two men interact in such a way.
Alex's younger sister, Jessica, had been left feeling jealous that the two boys had been given such special attention by Valentino. Jessica had a different experience, being very involved with the race and the mechanics, and she was also jealous of her brother's success. Alex had to learn how to deal with jealousy from his sister at first. Alex told Jessica that she needed to take some time out and enjoy the competition. She listened to him but didn't understand what he meant.
Alex has a very loyal following in his home country of Spain. He is famous and people feel very close to him. Alex has always felt part of the family. Hector and Jessica are always there for him, ready to help him if he needs it. and make him feel special.
Alex has also managed to make the most of his new found fame, making friends all over the world. He met fans from every part of the world. He also received plenty of support from his sponsors, most of whom understood the situation that Alex and Hector were going through. One of the most supportive is Yamaha. When the two were introduced to each other on their arrival at the Yamaha factory at Mugello it was easy to see that Alex and Hector were very happy to be there.
